Three Rivers Farm
Milo, Maine
Leigh Frankenfield got started in 1952 by raising beans for B&M Baked Beans, based out of Portland, Maine. He began with string beans, dry beans, and shell beans. Leigh has been raising beans every year since then, though he moved from sourcing B&M to owning and operating his own company, Kennebec Bean Co. For 30 years, he ran his bean operation out of Vasselboro, Maine, before retiring from the business. In his retirement, Frankenfield continues to raise dry beans at Three Rivers Farm. He does all the work himself, including the sorting and packaging of the beans. Frankenfield's goal is to produce the best possible dry beans available, and is hoping to move towards a completely organic operation.
