Hot Bread Kitchen

Hot Bread Kitchen

Harlem, New York

Based in East Harlem, Hot Bread Kitchen is a social enterprise that enables low-income and immigrant women to build economic security by pursuing careers in food. Our intensive on-the-job training provides women with a year of baking experience, as well as workforce-specific English classes and professional development. Many of the breads from our multi-ethnic bakery are inspired by our bakery trainees and their home countries; as a result, Hot Bread Kitchen also serves as a way to preserve international baking traditions. All of our breads are shaped and baked by hand in small batches. Sales of the bread produced by our trainees fund our training program.

Hot Bread Kitchen uses locally sourced ingredients when possible: rye and whole wheat flour from North Country Farms in Watertown, NY; organic cornmeal from Cayuga Pure Organics in the Finger Lakes Region; New York State Honey from Tremblay Apiaries in Van Etten and all fresh produce and dairy from NY and NJ producers.
