Hellgate Farm

Hellgate Farm is an organic, urban farm located in Astoria, New York. We partner with property owners throughout Astoria and Long Island City to turn underutilized backyards and rooftops into lush, valuable garden space. Our initial garden was built on one-tenth of an acre of land in the backyard of a residential property. With our partnerships, we now have much more growing space for all of our crops, and therefore a much larger harvest to share with our community.

We hold the philosophy that participating in cultivating food and, ultimately, its consumption is an intricate part of human health. This has been taken for granted for the majority of human history, but now it has been lost in the last century, even more so in urban environments. We wish to promote urban gardening and sustainable living within our community, providing opportunities for people interested in these practices to connect and to learn (and, of course, to share some tasty food!).
