In 2001, the Phelps family put Cricket Creek Farm up for sale, and the Sabot family,concerned about the development of the largest farm in Williamstown, explored options for protecting the land. By 2002 the purchase was complete and work was started on a plan for moving forward. Since much of the land was in Agricultural Protection, it had to be maintained as a working farm. After visiting Shelburne Farms in Northern Vermont, a decision was made to continue with dairy farming, add cheese making and an educational component.
Now the farm is run by Topher Sabot, Jamie Ott, Suzy Konecky, and Matthew Ball. Topher manages overall daily operations, and is most heavily involved with managing the dairy herd. Jamie Ott is our baker extraordinaire (baked goods only available form our farm store and select farmers markets). Suzy Konecky is the head cheese maker and manages cheese marketing, inventory, and sales. Matthew Ball oversees general livestock management and farmmaintenance as well as all of our beef and pork inventory. We work with an exceptional team of interns who come for a year and help with all that we do - we couldn't do it without them!
