While serving in the Peace Corps, Mark Overbay—a self-proclaimed lifelong peanut butter lover—learned firsthand how to handcraft nut butter while living in a rural farming community in Zimbabwe. Ten years after returning home, while working in the craft food movement in Durham, NC, he realized that no one in the U.S. was making small-batch, fresh-roasted nut butters. In 2011, Big Spoon Roasters was born, committed to crafting foods with transparency, a dedication to sustainability, and the best possible ingredients—like runner variety peanuts from the Carolinas, wildflower honeys from the NC Piedmont, North Carolina pecans, and California Mission-variety almonds. And with recipes like Chai Spice Nut Butter and Almond Ginger Butter, rest assured they’re also outstandingly delicious and nutritious.
